Plenty of people turned out for the Love for the Beard competition at Spotsylvania Towne Centre Saturday to raise money for the Rappahannock Area YMCA and the Children’s Miracle Network. Among the attendees were our very own David Beachboard and Robert Hayden providing standby EMS support. When David and Robert were approached by the YMCA to participate in the event, they accepted and began growing their beards to add to the authenticity as well as show their support for a good cause. Love for the Beard began on June 20th 2012 with a man wanting to grow a beard. His wife disagreed and his response was if I get 5,000 likes on Facebook can I keep it? His wife agreed and the rest is history. After surpassing the 5,000 likes the new iconic Beardimus Maximus was coined. Since June of 2012, the Love for the Beard has raised over $200,000.00 for the Rappahanock area YMCA and Children’s Miracle Network.
