Currently the county fleet consists of 25 ambulances. 21 of these are from Osage Industries (Type 1, based on the Ford F-350/450 chassis), and 2 International 4300 Medium Duty units. The two newest units are from PL Custom and are built on the Chevy C-4500 medium duty truck chassis. Five ambulances in the fleet were bought by SVRS, 1 by CVFR, and with the remainder being purchased by Spotsylvania County. The county units stationed at SVRS stations are co-titled with the squad.
The county utilizes an established vehicle replacement policy of 5 years or 100,000 miles. The agencies of Spotsylvania County utilize a single ambulance specification that is written and approved by all agencies providing service. The specification is modified on a 3 year basis. This is done in an effort to improve the safety of our providers and for ease of maintenance.
General equipment specification includes a 72” box, Whelen lighting package, Stryker cot and stair-chair, LIFEPAK 12 monitor, and a computerized record system. All new units will be based on the Cheverolet C-4500 medium-duty chassis. Because the ever increasing equipment weight causes excessive wear on the smaller vehicles, all future trucks will be on medium-duty chassis.

This "Monster Medic," an International 4300 Series, is one of two currently in operation within the county. Offering more room for patient care, a sharp turning radius, additional equipment space, ease of maintenance and an electronic Q siren, 4-1 is a favorite among the squad and citizens of the community. |
