Thank you for your interest in joining our team of professional, dedicated, and caring volunteers. As an organization, Spotsylvania Volunteer Rescue Squad is dedicated to providing our community with the highest level emergency medical care. Below, we have supplied you with the membership levels and their requirements. We hope there is a place in our organization that fits your schedule. Please feel free to contact us (Join@spotsyrescue.org) if you should have any questions.

Full Member:
A "Full" member must be currently certified as an EMT-B or higher, have a current CPR certification, and be at least 18 years of age.  A "Full" member is required to run at least 45 hours a month.
Associate Member:
A "Associate" member must be currently certified as EMT-B or higher, have a current CPR certification, and be at least 18 years of age.  A "Associate" member is required to run at least 30 hours a month.
Supplemental:
A "Supplemental" member must be currently certified as EMT-B or higher, have a current CPR certification, and be at least 18 years of age.  A "Supplemental" member is required to run at least 15 hours a month.  This position is only open to experienced providers and is designed for providers who work elsewere in the healthcare field.
Driver Only:
A "Driver" must be currently certified in CPR and EVOC, and at least 19 years of age. Drivers are encouraged to take an EMT class, however it is not a requirement.
Junior:
A "Junior" Member is 16 or 17 years of age.  A "Junior" member does have to have a current CPR certification. If he/she is not already an EMT-B, he/she will need to enroll in the next EMT-B course.
Intern: An "Intern" is a temporary membership catagory used when someone wants to join the squad, but is not yet obtained EMT-B certification.  An "Intern" must have a valid CPR certificate, and be enrolled in the first available EMT-B class.

“Student” Classification is a special status for members attending college, and allows the member to retain his/her membership status. While attending classes, the student and squad work together to ensure that squad requirements do not impact school work.  During the summer and on breaks, the student is expected to run the normal number of shifts for his/her membership category. For example, take an “Associate” member who attends a college out-of-town. While classes are in session, he would not run any shifts unless he decided to come home and run on a weekend.  During the summer and in winter break, he would run the 30 hours of duty/month expected of an “Associate” member.

As a reminder, you do not need experience from another agency or fire department to join.  The only things you need to bring, are the willingness to learn new things, a willingness to work as a team, and the never-ending desire to want to help those in your community.

If you are interested in joining, but need an EMT-B, CPR, or EVOC class, you can find information on our Training Page. We will post the dates and locations of classes that are offered in the area that will allow you to take the test(s). The EMT-B course is a state regulated training course.  It consist of 120 hours of classroom and practical exercises. At the end of the course, you will be eligible to take the state exam for your EMT-B certification. For members who are intersted in EVOC, that class is usually two or three days of classroom and driving excercises. When you receive your certifications for either EMT-B or EVOC, you will be placed with a preceptor who will guide you while you get aquainted with the processes of the organization and learn how to apply classroom concepts in real life.  During this time you will be a probationary member.  At the end of your precepting time period, you will be released on your own-as a patient care provider.  Once you are released, your membership status will be sent to the membership to be voted in as a member of Spotsylvania Volunteer Rescue Squad.

A great time to ask questions is when you see one of our members. If you happen to see one in your travels throughout the county, please feel free to ask about their experiences, and tell them you are interested in joining. Another great opportunity for prospective members to ask questions is at a Public Relations Event or Public Display.
